From: $15.00

L’ÉCLAIR by Sarah Michelle is Singapore’s first éclair specialty shop. Helmed by two Le Cordon Bleu-trained pastry chefs, it offers up to ten unique flavours of eclairs daily, such as Mango Passionfruit and Ispahan. The eclairs are best enjoyed with a fragrant pot of loose tea from Betjeman & Barton or a cup of specialty coffee. Marie Antoinette-wannabes will certainly appreciate its modern, chic Parisian interior décor, which is accentuated by white marble, brass lightings and a mesmerizing tin ceiling.

Guests who prefer savoury snacks must try the Signature Chicken Bacon Pie, which comes with a generous portion of side salad. It works great for a heavy afternoon tea — the crust is heavy yet crisp.

Along with other NOMNOM bloggers and journalists from OpenRice, we all agreed that the Lemon Meringue was our favourite. It had a light citrusy twist that was absolutely perfectly balanced.

According to owner, Sarah, Ispahan is the best-seller in their cafe. There’s no wonder why it’s the best-seller as the delicate rose petal adds on to its visual appeal. It’s made of rose cream, fresh berries and light chilli. The inspiration behind this Éclair comes form the award-winning macaron in Paris, a french name which I couldn’t catch. Désolé!

Review by NOM’S brand ambassador, Rachael:

With graduates from Le Cordon Bleu Paris, Sarah and Michelle helming L’éclair, they built up their éclair business from scratch, experimenting everything down from the choux pastries, creating new flavours and making sure it is aesthetically pleasing. Coupled with the amazing interior and imported decorations, I can say I fell in love with this place, simple classic French style, which reminds me of Paris so much!

Starting with one of their most popular éclair – Ispahan, a lychee and rose cream éclair with raspberry fruit sandwiched in between the pastry choux, is easily the prettiest éclair among their selection, which any girl would fall in love with. Oh and yes that pretty petal is not only visually pleasing, it is also edible!

The orange éclair you see is their new flavor – Mango Passion fruit. Slightly on the tardy side, it’s good for those who like their desserts sweet but yet want something sourish. I would go for something sweeter though.

On the other hand, their Lemon Meringue, which I usually do not pick because I am not a fan of sour desserts, but THIS changed my mind, I actually found this really light, not too tangy and not too sweet, just the right balance.

Earl Grey is also another of our favourite, this black tea I frequently drink has become a pretty pastry (another excuse for me to eat more), not too strong an earl grey taste but just right there they hit the nail, plus they are topped with gold dusted blueberries!

Hazelnut Praline, the only one with a different outlook as compared to the rest, has whole hazelnuts in them, which reminded me of Nutella, just much lighter, I could eat another one.

With a nice sweet pastry-crust, inside is an aromatic mix of bacon, chicken and mushroom bits, so filling and good.
