Stressed out? Need a quick holiday? Then read on! We’ll tell you all that you have to know about planning a quick vacation to Batam, and where to eat!
- Top of the list Food!
I know this is so important to many of you!
Here’s a list of food places that you’ve got to try:
- Bella Italia Ristorante Italiano
As you walking out of the HarbourBay ferry terminal, be sure to pop by this quaint Italian restaurant. You will not miss it! They do takeaways as well, so I will recommend you to get some of their awesome 4-cheese wood-fired pizza and head on to the hotel to do your check-in. This will be such a great start to your vacation! And get some pizza again to munch on while you are on the ferry back home!
Other awesome dishes include: Arrabbiata pasta and the mushroom soup
Address: Jl. Duyung, Harbor bay City walk 16, Kepulauan Riau 23424, Indonesia
- Ayam Penyat Ria
Perfect for a light meal when you are tired of exploring Nagoya Hill shopping mall. What more can you ask for – the chilli packs a punch and the smashed chicken is crispy and tender!
Address: Nagoya Hill Superblock Unit SM – V3-3A Lantai 1, JL Teuku Umar, Nagoya, 29444, Indonesia
- Caffein Café
The perfect place to relax after your massage or shopping, and indulge in yummy cakes and freshly brewed coffee. Must tries include cheesecake, macarons and the Victoria cake!
Address: Komp. Ruko Mall Nagoya Hill blok R3-A3A, Batam, Riau, Indonesia
- Wey Wey Live Seafood
Situated just behind the HarbourBay ferry terminal, this is one of the many seafood restaurants where you can get your seafood fix! What I like about this place – reasonable pricing, yummy seafood and fast service! Must order dishes include butter prawns and cereal crayfish! Do remember to check the prices before ordering, as there are no prices stated in the menu.
However, one complaint that most people have about Wey Wey is the stench. As the seats are by the harbour, there is a stench from the rubbish accumulated. One way to avoid this is just to find seats closer to the kitchen/entrance area.
Address: Harbour Bay Batam (Jl. Duyung, Sei Panas), Batam, Kepulauan Riau 29453, Indonesia
- Rezeki Seafood Restaurant
If you are staying near the Nongsapura ferry terminal area, this is one seafood restaurant that you have to try! However, like Wey Wey Live Seafood, do not expect too much of the ambience as it is a very no-frills sort of restaurant. Must tries include the sweet and sour fish, cereal prawns and steamed scallops!
Address: Pantai Batu Besar Jl.Haji Muhammad Saleh RT 01/RW 02
Batam, Riau, Indonesia 29466
SO now that you have been properly tempted, let’s move on to the other details!
We have always stayed in Swiss-Belhotel Harbour Bay and will strongly recommend everyone to stay there as well.
What’s good about the place?
- Within walking distance from Harbour Bay ferry terminal. Just walk across the covered walkway upon exiting the ferry terminal and follow the signs to the hotel.
- Within walking distance to awesome food (more about this later!)
- Really good spread of Western breakfast in the morning
- Huge rooms! And really comfy king-sized beds
- Relatively new hotel, which means facilities (such as the pool) are still well maintained.
- Clean! (This is so important!)
Remember to indicate the type of beds (double bed or two singles), smoking or non-smoking rooms etc.
- Getting the ferry tickets
There are many ferry operators to choose from. Just choose any operator with the ferry timing that best fits your schedule. You will need to purchase tickets that will dock at HarbourBay.
Do note that it is recommended that you purchase return tickets as well. If you are unable to get the return tickets with the timing that you want, you can always change the ticket timing at the ticketing booth at HarbourBay ferry terminal. However, tickets are subjected to availability, and there is no guarantee that you can change it.
- Exchange rate
The currency used in Batam is the Indonesian Rupiah. There are plenty of moneychangers at the Harbour Front ferry terminal so you can just change your money before boarding your ferry to Batam. Alternatively, you can also change your money at Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall. Some resorts in Batam also accept SGD.
- Things to do
Two main things that people go Batam for: water sports and massages. Of course, we go there for food as well, but that’s covered in the later section! Shopping wise, the main mall to shop is Nagoya Hills Shopping Mall. However, I feel that there isn’t much to buy, perhaps only accessories such as hair ties. The most exciting shop there is definitely the supermarket! It’s huge and you can get your hands on some local snacks!
So here’s a little bit more for those who are interested in water sports, and massages!
- Water sports and other thrilling activities
For the adventurous and thrill seekers! For those who are for an action-packed getaway, I will suggest booking a stay with Harris Resort at Waterfront city or Turi Beach Resort.
Harris Resort Hotel’s website: http://waterfront-batam.harrishotels.com/Activities/
Turi Beach Resort Hotel’s website: http://www.turibeach.com
If you are not that picky about price, I will say just make use of your hotel’s spa/massage facilities! If you want an alternative, you can head on down to Isabella Massage House! It’s conveniently located near Nagoyah Hills Shopping Mall, along a stretch of shop houses just opposite the mall. It’s a clean, serene environment, but it tends to get really packed during the holiday season and long weekends. What you should definitely do before your trip is to drop an email to them ([email protected]) to book your massage/spa packages. They also have a free pick up service so be sure to make use of it!
Address: Nagoya Hill Shop House Block G No. 5 Nagoya, Batam – Indonesia
That’s it! Batam will be the perfect spot for a fuss-free vacation, one that requires little planning! It is a great place for a quick weekend trip. Just chill, relax and indulge all day!
Delivering happiness, one cake at a time.
